Quote: “Elaan of Troyius”

Part of the reason we did [“Elaan of Troyius”] was because the network had told us they had done a survey in which they discovered that women, generally, were terrified of space. They needed stability, they needed surroundings. They’d rather be in valleys than on top of mountains. So we tried to get the women, which is why we did a romantic story.

Fred Freiberger, producer for TOS Season 3, quoted in Captains Logs: The Unauthorized Complete Trek Voyages by Edward Gross and Mark A. Altman, 1995.

I would give an arm and a leg to see that survey and what questions they asked to come up with such ridiculous results.

Here’s my review of “Elaan of Troyius”, in case you want to read how their solution panned out.
